Dear Potential Outdoor Instructor,

Thank you for your interest in being an instructor/TA for Cornell Outdoor Education. Working for COE is a rewarding and challenging job full of opportunities for growth and giving. COE uses challenge, adventure, and outdoor experiences, with reflection and analysis, to help individuals and teams learn and grow. While COE serves a variety of populations, its central mission is to serve Cornell students. COE classes and programs compliment classroom learning, and provide students with real world leadership and team opportunities.

We typically hire instructors with a mix of personal outdoor experience, first aid, leadership, and human relations skills. They are highly committed and enthusiastic, and find reward in sharing your outdoor experience with others. Check out the expectations and benefits of working for PE programs.

All new instructors are expected to attend several meetings and training events, including a full training weekend, two evening New Staff Orientations, and other area specific meetings/trainings which will be specified at the time of instructor selection.

The instructor application includes some questions about your outdoor experience and training, three short answer questions, and contact information for three references. The application form can be found online.

NOTE: The interview and selection process winter and spring instructors takes place in early fall. Likewise, if you are interested in teaching starting in the summer or fall instructors, applications are due in early spring.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Chris Leeming
